Teaching us to laugh! It's not too often you see an RE teacher as a comedian. However, Kevin Precious is leading the way with his own instantly recognisable stage presence and boundless wit, writes Denzil Fernandes. In Not Appropriate, Precious explores his former life as a teacher. In his distinctively dry and sarcastic manner, he told the audience of battles fought with unruly pupils and some of the peculiar characteristics of former teaching colleagues that, needless to say, rang bells with everyone. "Comedy was something I'd really wanted to get into. I left teaching five years ago and started doing some supply work. "I started off doing four days a week and slowly narrowed it down to three, then two. I haven't done it since last July." A few of the jokes are more tailored to an audience of teachers, however, the overall show is jam-packed with observational humour that everybody recognises from their school days, and has you laughing when reliving those hilariously awkward school moments. Precious is currently working on a new show about punk rock which he will be premiering this year at the Brighton Comedy Festival.
